Excel 97-2004 Workbook (.xls) Compatible with Excel 98 through Excel 2004 for Mac and Excel 97 through Excel. I was able to create an XML spreadsheet that could be used to convert Excel spreadsheets into an XML data file that could be used to import data into Oracle APEX. Unfortunately, I discovered that Microsoft Excel on the Macintosh does not appear to be able to export data as XML.

The Word 2011 default format files have an x at the end of the filename to signify that they’re eXtensible Markup Language (XML) documents.Here’s a rundown on the various extensions you find in the Save As dialog: ExtensionDescriptionWord Document(.docx)This is Word 2011’s default, regular format. It’s theinternational standard format for word processing documents, alsoknown as standard open XML format. This format is fully compatiblewith Word 2008 (Mac), Word 2007 (Windows), and Word 2010 (Windows).OpenOffice, NeoOffice, Lotus Notes, and Apple Pages (part of iWork)can open these documents, but their conversion process changes howdocuments look and work. Use this format if you know yourrecipient is using one of these older versions of Microsoft Word,either Mac or Windows.Plain Text(.txt)Saves only the text portion of the Word document. Everythingelse is discarded.Web Page(.htm)Turns your Word document into a Web page (HTML) document andalso creates a supporting folder of linked objects, such aspictures or movies. Web browsers, such as Safari and Firefox, canopen the result.Single File Web Page(.mht)Similar to Web Page (HTM), Single File Web Page creates asingle file also known as a Web archive.

You'll find that most Office XML files are stored in linearized form, where are line breaks have been removed. As a result, the files usually only have 2 lines, but the second one is really long. In a text editor like BBEdit, you would format this for humanreadability by using the MarkupUtilitiesFormat. Command to create an indented structure with breaks.If you're trying to read this with VBA, you would search for statements between less than and greater than signs:If you read the whole file into memory, only the document.xml file is large enough to potentially be too large. You could do a test on the file size first, then branch your code to read the whole file in if it's smaller, or read it in chunks if it's big.You would have to establish a limit by trial and error.You're going to get very familiar with string parsing.
